What a teasing on social medias... After a few intense days of waiting, we discovered what Superplastic was cooking up. Ready ?
Paul Budnitz and Huck Gee have hidden their game these days. With enigmatic photos on social and texts that were just as much, the duo is about to drop a bomb on the international toys scene : they give life to their iconic characters via a division based on the animation and entertainment ! It must be said that the $ 10 millions of their fundraising is particularly helpful in launching this brand new project. But what is it exactly ?
Far from a simple animation, Superplastic hired the best animators so that Janky and Guggimon (the main characters of the brand) are able to interact with the fans. No we are not in a SF movie but participate in the transformation of figurines into ... influencers. The playground of the animators for this project ? Social networks ! Janky and Guggimon will punctuate your daily life with photos, videos and inspirational stories where the product investments will be present. Balenciaga, Louis Vuitton, Dr. Martens are already tagged on their posts. However, this cross way between fashion and figurines is not new, especially for Huck Gee who had already collaborated with many creators for his Skullhead project.
What should we think of all this ? Is it a subtle marketing move to put forward its iconic characters or an innovative way to democratize the toys scene by social networks ? Surely a bit of both. Moreover, you will find respectively Janky and Guggimon in New York and Montreal in 2019 and 2020 for exhibitions that are already announced surprising.
Superplastic hits a big blow with this announcement about the toys scene, which is accompanied by the launch of a new figure : Kranky Janky by Sket-One.
