MEMORY LINES is the first "real" book by Parisian illustrator Stéphane Manel, known in particular for his portraits published in the press. The one that most resembles him, a completely personal book, free from the constraints of the order.
The book gathers about forty drawings all made between January and June 2019, in a form of liberating emergency. At the borders of the map and the exquisite corpse, the rebus and the intimate puzzle, each drawing calls to mind the author's personal pantheon - relatives, artists, objects, works, places -, mixing registers, writings and figures alike.
MEMORY LINES is the messy and sensitive condensate of a life and an era. Those of a draftsman born in 1971, a fan of Modiano, Miles Davis, Rohmer, Tintin and Perec, among others.
