Banksy opens a shop in London !
Engaged by his art, Banksy doesn't miss any opportunity to be heard. This time the walls are not enough. It's in an old shop in Croydon, South of London, that Banksy takes up his quarters delivering a punch exhibition aimed at criticizing the consumer society, the whole society. And especially the English system. Indeed, this exhibition isn't only motivated by Banksy's anger or the surrounding injustice, it's also motivated by a fight with a company of greeting cards who use and abuse his art. But it's... legal ! This point is precisely the fight's heart because in England an artist who doesn't exploit his art commercially can see it being by someone else.
Seeing his works as a financial engine is a problem for Banksy who, remind you, sometimes destroys his own paintings as a protest. With GDP it's different, the staging is pushed to its paroxysm : Tony the Tiger, Kellog's mascot, is transformed into carpet, his famous "Rage, The Flower Thrower" broken down into a triptych, we see a cradle is surrounded by cameras (a reference to Big Brother perhaps ? ) or his famous bullet-proof vest enthroned with the flag of England. We can make the list of Banksy's GDP but the video will be more meaningful. However, we highlight his "Welcome" carpet, embroidered with orange thread from a lifejacket that is attributed to migrants.
Why is it important ? Because if you can't enter or buy locally Banksy pieces, the online store will allow you but every penny will be dedicated to buy a migrants boat that replaces the one recently confiscated by the Italian authorities. We let you do the math on the border between legal and not legal.
Banksy's GDP will be open for just a few weeks, enlightened 24/24 story to push criticism - ecological this time - a little further.
