Interview Lucha Free / Part 1
On the occasion of the coming of Bill & Gobi; On November 25, 2006 at Artoyz Shop + Gallery for the Dedication of Lucha Free and Toys released at Muttpop
Hello everyone, First of all, do you introduce yourself in a few words: who are you, where do you come, what are you doing, what training do you have? Gobi: I am Gobi, a guy all awesome and more pretty beautiful gosse what is quite rare in the profession, I come from Nîmes, I make the comics (the Zblucops with Bill at Glénat) of the designs of bonhommes for toys, and bunch of bonhomme designs that serve has nothing but that makes me happy to do, and also I sculpt bonhommes ............ and I like the guys too, I went through an applied arts section for Then enter the deco arts of Strasbourg more precisely in an illustration workshop. Bill: I'm Bill, I have exactly the same training as Gobi and I'm even more awesome than him. Fabien: I'm Fabien, I come from Ozoir La Ferrière 77, I'm doing comics, monsters for cartoons, illustrations for kids, a toy, and other bidules. What I prefer is the setting up of universe, create contexts, sets, lifestyles, characters ... I spent a year with the ESAG and spun to the decorative arts of Strasbourg. How did you meet each-other ? Jerry Frissen: I saw three pages that Bill had realized when I worked in the Humanos and I immediately wanted to work with him. I wrote the first chapter of the Luchadores Five for him and we have heard each other. He then introduced me Gobi and Fabien. Gobi: I know Bill since high school, we are like Siamese brothers but who would not be attached to each other and who would not be altered at all, from the high school we follow the same road. We met Fabien, who is for us as a kind of Siamese cousin, with deco arts in Fabien illustration section: Yes, that's right. I was very impressed by the talent of Bill and Gobi, they scared people (can be their fusional relationship, or their clothes), but I found them nice ... How did the idea of Lucha Free come from? JF: On my side, it's something I discovered about fifteen years ago thanks to a friend of mine who was a kind of ultimate fan. He lives in a kind of museum dedicated to Lucha free. It is also something very present here in Los Angeles, given the high proportion of Latinos. It has therefore imposed on me as obvious. G: I think that at the start is Mexicans who were wrestling and making their clever they did not say catch but something in Spanish and suddenly it made the Lucha free. No longer seriously I think Thierry being a fan of all kinds of "under" cultures hanging around the world, he has always been interested in the free Lucha, and falling on some boards of Bill featuring a small Luchador Probably concretized a project that has long been sleeping in Him. B: more than the Mexican wrestling in itself, the BD is mainly inspired by Lucha's films, with El Santo and Blue Demon in the lead, or wrestlers fight against B series creatures while having a normal life, With women, kids and super parts of failure ... and always staying hidden. We have not yet tried to maintain the "tooc" appearance of these films, and to maintain a certain ambiguity in the real nature of the monsters, we never know if people see them as disguised guys or if Are really disguised guys ... F: All this is Thierry's fault. After Bill and Gobi trained in the inside. How are the roles divided into Lucha Free? JF: A priori I work before the others since I am the screenwriter, but as they spend a lot more time than me on a page, I often leave them the last word. And then, in general, they have good ideas. We come from very different cultures and what they have to say interests me so I consider our common job as an exchange. I make tequila, and Fabien makes the Tikitis, Jerry writes everything, all in us (me) letting the casting of the characters and let me intervene as good seems to me on the scenar what is Appreciable when we know how much I want to have my guys. B: Oh well well his shit, huh ... F: Everyone makes his album! We agree with Thierry, he writes the script, we talk about it and as soon as we agree, it's gone. It's going fast enough.
