MOLANG

Too Cute to Eat

"Artists are used to having their own mascot character, I like to draw animals, I've drawn a lot of them, especially rabbits. When I was doing it, I wanted it to be both the simplest and the prettiest and that's how Molang was born. It was not originally created for commercial purposes. […] Molang comes from Malang malang which means squishy and soft in Korean. My cousin, when he was six years old, gave him the name Malang. I wanted it to sound more like a proper name, so I changed Malang to Molang." "I didn't give Molang a gender. I didn't want to limit the character. I can then let Molang dress in girls' clothes or give him a boyish look. But, in the way it was introduced in English (and by implication in French) I just assigned it the masculine gender, for convenience."

The genesis of

Molang

A leading character of the Millimages studio, Molang is the result of the meeting between two women from very different worlds. In 2010, Hye-Ji Yoon, a Korean illustrator, scribbled the first Molang and Piu Piu in her student notebooks.

Falling under their spell, Marie Caroline Villand, a French author and director, created the characters, stories and values of these adorable and charismatic best friends. The result is an animated TV series that now has 6 seasons and an international brand represented by licensing agents around the world.

A viral phenomenon, Molang represents unwavering kindness and gathers more than 9 million fans on social media, from her pop culture parodies on Instagram to her dances on TikTok to her gaming videos on YouTube.

10 years later, it is our turn to propose a revolution in the Molang universe. Focused on the Comfort food, This is a first wave that calls for many others if you are there. And for the little anecdote, this is the very first time in the world that a Piu Piu figurine has seen the light of day.
