Description
Between 1760 and 1849, an "old fool of drawing", also a painter and engraver, produced more than 1000 paintings, 3000 color prints, but also illustrations for more than 200 books. Her name ? Hokusai. His most famous work remains, even today, the thirty-six views of Mount Fuji.
As its name does not indicate at all, it is about 46 prints (36 at first then 10 added later) with as common denominator, Mount Fuji. Present on each of the prints, it is however not the theme of these works which prefer to question the link between men and nature.
In this 224-page book, find the 46 main prints but also 114 variants from private collections, all commented on by Andreas Mark, curator of Japanese and Korean art of the Mary Griggs Burke collection, director of the Japanese art department and Korean, and director of the Clark Center for Japanese Art at the Minneapolis Institute of Art.
