Tomi Ungerer (1931-2019) published his first drawings in the legendary Simplicissimus magazine and began his long career as an illustrator, author of children's books and artist in New York. In 2003, Ungerer was appointed first ambassador for childhood and education by the Council of Europe, and in 2007, the Tomi Ungerer museum opened its doors in Strasbourg, making him the first artist living with a museum dedicated to his life and his work in France.
