Who is the artist behind Skullpanda?
Released in 2018, Skullpanda is one of Popmart's flagship characters (or IP): she represents the search for oneself, uncertainty, and the various possibilities that the universe can offer a person. But what artist is behind this bestseller?
Xiongmiao, creator of Skullpanda, is a Chinese artist who created her own creative studio BEIZHAI in 2014, then a studio specializing in art toy in 2018 after the release of the famous IP called NORTH STUDIO. Skullpanda joined Popmart's many characters in 2020, a partnership that allowed the figure to be marketed and promoted across the world while leaving the creative freedom to its original studio. This character is recognizable because of his design mixing gothic and fantasy, its worked details, and its large expressive eyes. With this duality between cute and dark, Skullpanda conveys to fans various emotions and moods: a true reflection of the spirit. The artist wanted to give life to her alter-ego, a freer version of herself.
When the Skullpanda Ancient Castle (2020) blind boxes were released, the first series of the figurine after joining Popmart, around 60,000 copies were sold in one second.
In summary, Xiaomiao, designer Chinese and founder of BEIZHAI and NORTH STUDIO studios, is the creator of Skullpanda. She joined Popmart in 2020 and this IP has become one of the key figures of the blind box industry leader.
Are all Skullpanda figures posable?
