Daniel Arsham's exhibition opens Saturday at Galerie Perrotin
Galerie Perrotin made a strong statement by announcing an exhibition dedicated to New York artist Daniel Arsham. Known for his work on a new type of archeology and his collaborations with renowned artistic directors, such as Kim Jones at Dior, Daniel Arsham creates the event. In this exhibition entitled "Paris 3020", the contemporary artist once again explores this idea of a 3-sided temporality which skillfully juxtaposes itself over his works. However, the specter of the past seems more anchored in this exhibition with the reinterpretation of major works already existing.
Follow the guide... For Paris 3020, a fantasized projection of 1000 years compared to our present, Daniel Arsham summoned the past through known statues such as Moses seated sculpted by Michelangelo or the Venus of Milo, whose notoriety no longer needs to be done. But what can you do when the originals sit in the most beautiful museums in the world ? Thanks to this ambitious project, Daniel Arsham had access to the casts of these statues from the collections of the Louvre, the Acropolis Museum in Athens, the Basilica of San Pietro in Vincoli in Rome and the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna.
Made from gypsum cement and natural pigments such as volcanic ash, cacite blue, selenite or even quartz, making a nod to past sculptors who used these techniques, these works are amazing. This natural, organic rendering is also accentuated by the crystallization process, a true signature of Daniel Arsham. Placed under the sign of time and the questioning of cultural heritage, the Paris 3020 exhibition will also be punctuated by a discussion between Daniel Arsham and Ludovic Laugier, Curator at the Louvre museum in charge of Greek sculpture, during the vernissage this Saturday January 11 between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. The appointment is made for this long-awaited exhibition at Galerie Perrotin !
