Article: The Nanoblock

Les Nanoblock

The Nanoblock

With bricks measuring an average of 5 mm per side, the Nanoblock finds itself on the border of a game and a puzzle !

The smallest block of nanoblock measures 4 x 4 x 5 mm, which allows the constructions to be as close as possible to reality with an important quality of detail.

Approaching pixel art, these buildable miniatures offer a wide range of choices to suit all ages and tastes.

A block full of history

It is a range of construction toys from the Kawada company, created in 1952 in Tokyo and which specialized directly in construction toys. It was in 1962 that the brand began to really make itself known with its first range of figurines called "Diablock", a construction game that strangely resembled the concept of the LEGO brand.

The bricks are nevertheless much larger, intended for young children, and of more diverse shapes. The construction sets are simple: house, fire truck or even a small store. It was in 1983 that the first SF series arrived, named "Super Adventure". There are now more detailed robots and ships that appeal to new types of consumers !

The evolution then continues over the years, keeping this idea of bricks for everyone !

We find here the "Super Adventure" edition of 2003, released to celebrate the success of the range for its 40 years.

From 2008, the range offers more bricks in bulk, allowing the user to express their creativity without limit !

The beginnings of Nanoblock

It was also during the same year that Kawada diversified its catalog by attacking adults this time with its "Nanoblock" range. The principle is still similar to LEGO, but this time the pieces are only a few millimeters thick !

Named "NB-001 Standard Color Set", it is the first product released under this name! It offers different models to build, including of course the iconic Tokyo Tower.

The latter has also recently come out and is available at Artoyz !

Tokyo Tower - NBH 001

It will be necessary to wait until 2009 for the range to be exported for the first time abroad! And it is Hong Kong that will have this privilege.

The brand has a desire to position itself as close as possible to its community. She then created the "Nanoblock Award" which rewards the most ingenious constructions each year ! The first edition was launched in 2010 and appears to be a real challenge for many people.

We find here for example the creation of Motonari787 from 2012, representing Disneyland Tokyo.

Nanoblock is therefore very successful and wins several prizes in the game category, including the Japan Toy Award High Target Toy with its Tokyo Skytree model in 2011. The construction virus becomes contagious and success is confirmed in the toy market as well than gifts.

The arrival of the range in France

In 2011, nanoblock arrives in France and the phenomenon is immediately gaining momentum! From the collector wanting to accumulate pieces to the simple consumer seduced by one of the models, the brand gathers around it a community of small block fans.

A few historic buildings are then put in the spotlight, known to represent France internationally!

Let's start with our beautiful Eiffel Tower, available in large, medium or small :

It is also possible to find Paris seen from the sky, with a set made in reference to the Universal Exhibition of 1889 :

Or the Cathedral of Notre-Dame de Paris :

If the beautiful Parisian capital doesn't turn you on more than that, I'll take you for a ride in Normandy on the side of Mont-Saint-Michel !

As you have seen, France is rather well represented in this Nanoblock range. But it is of course not the only country present and many licenses and themes are to be discovered !

  Nanoblock Pokemon

In 2013, the first models were made available in Japan, and in 2015 the Pokemon line was distributed in the United States and other countries.

Mega Dracaufeu Y - NBPM 058

Tiplouf - NBPM 079

Pokemon also offers miniature Nanoblock models named "Mininano", which are about 30% smaller than standard Pokemon nanoblocks. These are grouped according to their types !

Pokemon Normal - NBMC 14B

Pokemon Fire - NBMC 11B

Pokemon Electric - NBMC 08B

Naruto Nanoblock

Released on February 15, 2007, Naruto Shippuden is the sequel to Naruto. The anime is produced by Hayato Date and has no less than 500 episodes. This second part begins two and a half years after the first, when the two Naruto friends, Sasuke and young Sakura have each completed their ninja apprenticeship.

We find at Nanoblock many characters from the anime !

Naruto - NBCC 134

Not to mention Dragon Ball, Peanuts and Spy x Family; it is therefore not the licenses that are missing at Nanoblock !

Finally, there are more "basic" collections on themes such as large buildings, animals, food, vehicles...

For example, what do you think of this magnificent 1510-piece set which reproduces quite faithfully the famous Sydney Harbor Bridge ?

Not to mention this adaptation of the late Titanic, with a set of 1800 pieces ! What do you spend good hours doing...

For fans of Japan, many models are available to you ! Including this pretty Bonsai that will add a touch of greenery to your interior.

Best of all ? It's that the adventure does not stop at the end of the construction, each design offers alternative constructions. The only limit with Nanoblocks is therefore your imagination !
