In the 1970s, photographer Hugh Holland masterfully captured the nascent skateboarding culture against a landscape in southern California, sometimes hard but always sunny.

This unprecedented collection presents its black and white photographs illustrating young planchists who trot on the sidewalk in front of Mulholland Drive in concrete drainage ditches and empty swimming pools in a southern California struck by drought. From the rear-haunted backyard to the asphalt streets that connect them, the place inspired the legendary Skaters Dogtown and Z-Boys.

Blonde discolored blonde, tanned body, tube socks and vannettes, these young outsiders evoke the sometimes reckless but always exhilarating origins in the lifestyle and the culture of skateboarding.
