This work by Christopher Frayling celebrates more than 100 years of vampires in cinema. Presented under different approaches, the vampire is one of the figures of modern films and it is now rooted in film culture. It all started in March 1922 with a counterfeit version of the novel Dracula, which nevertheless shed light on a new genre. It is considered one of the greatest hits in the realm of vampire movies and it has allowed other directors to get started in this segment.
After Hollywood took care of it, the variations did not stop and the simple vampire that we knew is now visible as a figure with many facets. With Vampire Cinema, we discover many archives and images from ancient times, specially brought out for the occasion by the historian of Gothic culture Christopher Frayling.
